An unfussy pan. A little extra upkeep.
Lodge 10.25-inch seasoned cast iron skillet (L8SK3)
Cast iron is not magic, and it is not maintenance-free. But if you want one sturdy pan for stovetop cooking and the oven, the Lodge is a straightforward place to start. Just do not buy it expecting lightweight, dishwasher-friendly cookware.
A good fit if…
Home cooks who want stovetop-to-oven cookware and are happy to dry and oil it after washing.
Skip it if…
A heavy pan is awkward for you, or putting everything in the dishwasher is non-negotiable.
What actually matters
Lodge’s classic skillets come seasoned with vegetable oil and work on induction, other stovetops, and in the oven. The range comes in several sizes; look for L8SK3 if you want the 10.25-inch version.
The trade-off is care. Lodge’s instructions are simple: hand wash, dry, oil. Leaving it wet or treating it like dishwasher-safe stainless steel is asking for trouble.
Cast iron retains heat well, but you still need to preheat it and manage your cooking temperature. Do not expect a brand-new pan to behave exactly like a coated nonstick skillet.
Our take: worth considering for someone who wants durable, uncomplicated cookware and accepts the upkeep. This is based on manufacturer information, not a kitchen test conducted by this site.
